In this mode, you play the actual game with the story involved. You get from level to level by going through the adventure fields. The tutorial for using the characters through this mode (after you select a character) and, once you've beaten a character's game, the option to view the ending credits for the character are also available.
In this mode, you can play any level or mini-game that you've beaten in the game. All characters can play the mini-game, Twinkle Circuit, and their boss battles (once you've beaten their game in adventure mode). Both Sonic and Tails have Sky Chase Acts 1 and 2, Sand Hill, and Icecap (snowboarding) in addition to Twinkle Circuit. Amy has Hedgehog Hammer in addition to Twinkle Circuit. You can also check out your status with your collection of emblems via this mode. |

The adventure fields connect the action stages and mini-games throughout the game. The people you find in the adventure fields can sometimes give you hints as to what you need to do (or go) as well as have their own side stories that can enhance or detract from the game (depending on your view). There are items to find in these fields to power-up a character, to open up certain levels, and emblems to find. You will always be put in the last field you were in based on where you are in the game when stopping in the middle of someone's game. After beating a character's game, you will start in Station Square, except for Super Sonic's game. That game starts in the Mystic Ruins.
The city where Amy Rose lives with many different attractions. The hotel contains the Chao Garden in this field. Emerald Coast, Twinkle Park, Casinopolis, and Speed Highway are the action levels that can be accessed from this place. The Twinkle Circuit mini-game is also available for all characters from here. Here you will find people leading average lives to talk to as well as "Mr. Know-It-All." The Ice Stone needed for opening Icecap can be found in an alleyway across from the train station entrance near the casino when it is needed. The train will take you to the Mystic Ruins, while a boat across from the train station will take you to the Egg Carrier.
The jungle that has the ruins of an echidna civilization, is also where Tails has his workshop, Big lives (usually) in peace with Froggy, Eggman has his base, and Angel Island ends up crashing. A cave below Tails' workshop is where the Chao Garden can be found in this field. Windy Valley, Icecap, Red Mountain, Lost World, and Final Egg are the action stages that can be accessed from this field. Explorers are the people that can be found in various places through out. The Wind Stone can be found by Tails' Workshop when it is needed to open Windy Valley. The train will take you to Station Square, while a raft below the train station will take you to the Egg Carrier.
Eggman's impressive flying fortress has two different modes and contains places such as Eggman's sleeping quarters. Inside the Egg Carrier, you will find the Chao Garden for this field--and you need to correctly spell "E-G-G-M-A-N" to enter it. Sky Deck and Hot Shelter are the action stages that can be accessed from this field. Since it crashed into the ocean, a boat on the same side of the Egg Carrier as the monorail will take you to Station Square. A raft on the opposite side will take you to the Mystic Ruins. |
