    General Info
    Sonic Crackers

Don't worry, you haven't missed a real sonic game for Genesis.. Or......have you? Yes, there is a "lost" Genesis Sonic game. It's called Sonic Crackers, and it doesn't appear to have ever made it out of alpha development. It may have begun with someone selling a beta version of the "Crackers" game on usenet about a year or so back.......The question is however - Just what is it?

    Additinal Info

This game.. oddly titled "Sonic Crackers" is most perplexing. It has elements ( and music..) from Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic 3D Blast. Maybe this game was intended to be the last great Sonic game for Genesis. Maybe Knuckles Chaotix was almost called "Sonic Chaotix". Its most likely the unfinished Sonic the Hedgehog 4, rumored to be soon released on the Sega 32X.

Sonic and Tails are connected by an energy chain between rings, just like in Chaotix. The "hold" moves from Chaotix are in it, too. The same button is used for hold & jump, which is an option in Chaotix. It has other similarities too.

  • The 2 levels have obvious similarities to the Techno Tower and Speed Slider zones of Knuckles's Chaotix, but with much simpler designs and no badnix.
  • Like Knuckles' Chaotix, there seems to be morning, night, dusk, and daytime play, with the color schemes and music of the levels changing.
  • The level music is bascally the same as the Knuckles' Chaotix World Entrance stage, and the overhead/isometric map music is a "premix" of the Techno Tower music.
  • Some of Sonic's sprites are obviously the beta versions of Mighty's sprites. In fact, Mighty's gameplay was probably designed for Sonic, since he's the fastest character in the game and the Wall Kick would make sense for Sonic.

The gameplay seems to involve runnng through levels on a time limit. The control is odd, fustrating at times, like Chaotix only worse. The physics of the game are all over the place, and running on ramps is kinda buggy. The graphics look great, and there's a really spiffy "external" loop in the speed level.
