New Sega Internal Organization - True Red 10/31/02
From IGNCube:

Sega has established a new supervisory body to oversee its game production and development strategies for both console software and arcade games, reports the latest issue of the Nikkei Weekly. This organization bureau will be composed of four people, led by Hisao Oguchi of the Hitmaker division.

The creation of this body is apparently also to be accompanied by a centralization of Sega's game development, which has for some time been carried out by a series of relatively disparate development teams -- Hitmaker, Smilebit, AM2, and so on. Though those teams will retain their autonomous identity, development will be more closely supervised from Sega's central headquarters from now on.

If Sega's internal shakeups lead to a direct influence on its present and future games, we'll be sure to bring you further news on the story as it arises.

Sega Stock sags - Srol 10/24/02
Segas stock reached a new low today with the revelation that their North American sales had come in extremely under expectations. While Sonic Team titles sold extremely well, Sega only sold 400,000 copies of NFL2k2, a title which they expected to sell 1.5 million copies.

This could be a serious hitch in Sega's plan to become the number one publisher in North America.

Unfortunately, there was no mention of Game Boy Advance sales, and how Sonic games on that platform had sold.

Hands on Sonic Advance 2 - True Red 9/21/02
From Gamespot:

Sega is showing off a new Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Game Boy Advance at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Sonic Advance 2 sticks close to the Sonic formula while adding a couple of new moves and a choice of playable characters.

The characters playable in the version being shown at TGS are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Cream, a rabbit who travels with a chao companion. The chao can be used to attack enemies. Sonic himself has the jump shield seen in previous entries in the series, as well as a flip-over slide that can be used for quick stops and an airborne spinning whirlwind move that would appear to be an attack of some kind.

The world shown, called Leaf Forest, is exactly what you would expect from a 2D Sonic game. The backgrounds and level design are very similar to the first worlds used in the early Sonic games for the Genesis. The Leaf Forest boss fight puts you up against Dr. Robotnik, who is driving a dune buggy with a giant hammer coming out of it.

Graphically, this may be the best-looking 2D Sonic game yet. The characters are bursting with fluid animation, and the game has a nice, colorful look to it. We'll have more information on Sonic Advance 2 as it becomes available.
